IPL Laser Treatment For Vascular and Pigmented Lesions
Brown spots, broken capillaries, and other fallout from photoaging are easy targets for laser systems that use broadband light to repair these defects through a process called photorejuvenation. Additionally, facial wrinkles can now be treated non-ablatively, contributing to a more youthful appearance. Using relatively low-energy, short-pulse broadband light, imperfections such as redness of rosacea, superficial capillaries, sun spots, age spots, and other discolored signs of photoaging can be gently heated and eliminated, replaced by newer, younger looking skin. Treatment is gentle and with minimal downtime.

Key Advantages For Patients
  • Reduce the signs of aging with a quick, 20-minute procedure
  • Almost “no downtime” procedure makes it perfect for lunch breaks
  • Treatment leads to continued effects over time

Non-Surgical, Quick and Effective

Nearly 100% of all people have one or more pigmented (dark-colored) lesions. Some are caused by sun exposure, others by aging. Still others are congenital. Regardless of the cause, pigmented lesions are simply spots on the skin where there is a higher concentration of melanin. Some lesions are flat; others are raised. In most cases, pigmented lesions are merely a cosmetic concern, but in some cases, they can be an early sign of skin cancer.

For most benign pigmented lesions that are of a cosmetic concern, there is a non-surgical option using the VP handpiece available on the Harmony®XL. By exposing a pigmented lesion to short pulses of visible light, the temperature in the highly concentrated melanin can be raised sharply, enough to shatter the cells containing the melanin. The body then replaces these cells with new cells generated by the surrounding untreated area. The AFT 540 VP handpiece offers unique wavelength and pulse width capabilities, allowing it to treat pigmented lesions on any skin type.

How is Photorejuvenation performed?

A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated. The smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band. An anesthetic cream may be used, but is seldom required.

Treatment is usually administered by your dermatologist in a series of 4 to 6 sessions that provide excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effects and high satisfaction. Each treatment takes about twenty minutes.

The second modality is the Nd:YAG laser. This specialized type of laser is very effective in correcting deeper spider capillaries, larger vascular legions on the face and neck as well as small, superficial varicose veins. By using a cool, chill-tip, the Nd:YAG laser minimizes patient discomfort. There is generally no down time and minimal discomfort, if any, for most patients who have experienced both the IPL and Nd:YAG laser treatments.

What conditions can Photorejuvenation treat?

_____________

Imperfections from Sun Damage and Photo-aging

Facial imperfections or abnormalities can detract from your well being and appearance, no matter how healthy and young you feel. IPL technology helps create smoother-looking skin. After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation. The same treatment can be used effectively on the neck, chest, arms, and hands.

Broken Veins and Capillaries

The face has an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Over time, aging, trauma, sun exposure, and certain lifestyle factors caused a number of them to break appearing as red streaks or blotches on the face. IPL therapy can eliminate damaged veins and capillaries by removing virtually all traces of these unsightly blemishes.

Redness Caused by Broken Capillaries

Many people suffering from broken capillaries and erythema, feel that it causes them social embarrassment. For both women and men, IPL can successfully treat dilated blood vessels without injuring the surrounding healthy skin.
