Nearly 30% of people in the U.S. have at least one tattoo. Almost half of all millennials have one. But not all of them are happy about their decision. As many as 25% of those with a tattoo say they regret getting it. There are a number of methods to achieve a tattoo removal, including dermabrasion, chemical peels, and surgical excisions. These options are often pretty aggressive and pretty invasive. This is why the most common and effective method is by laser treatment.

Many people come to the Orlando Dermatology Center looking for tattoo removal. At our clinic in Florida we have state-of-the-art laser tattoo removal machines that provide great results with minimal pain and recovery. If you’re looking to get a tattoo removed, laser removal is your best option.

How It Works

Lasers remove tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors with a high-intensity light beam. Black tattoo pigment absorbs all laser wavelengths, making it the easiest color to treat. Other colors can only be treated by selected lasers based upon the pigment color.

Professional Tattoo Removal: Facts & Possibilities

Before laser treatment, the skin is numbed with an injection of a local anesthetic. Then a powerful pulse of energy is applied to the tattoo to heat and shatter the tattoo ink. Multicolored tattoos might need treatment with various lasers and different wavelengths.

After the procedure, you might notice swelling and possibly blistering or bleeding. Antibacterial ointment can help promote healing. You’ll likely need repeated sessions to lighten the tattoo, and it might not be possible to completely erase the tattoo.

Surgical removal

During surgical removal, the skin is numbed with an injection of a local anesthetic. The tattoo is removed with a scalpel, and the edges of skin are stitched back together. After the procedure, antibacterial ointment helps promote healing.

Surgical tattoo removal is effective — but it leaves a scar and might be practical only for small tattoos.

Are tattoo removals safe?

Yes, if you find the right doctor. Using a certified laser professional lowers the possibility for side effects. At Orlando Dermatology Center our certified professionals will make sure your experience is positive.
